Eldorado is a community about a stone's throw from Santa Fe, New Mexico and the cactus garden at the Eldorado Community Garden, is literally a stone's throw in length. Its beds are separated by a gravel path.
I've been intending to do a longer post of the community garden, but lately haven't had much time. Alas, sometimes life gets in the way of blogging.
Those are very cool. Would love to have a few here, but they wouldn't make it over the winter.

Very interesting, the cactus crew. The flowers are quite pretty and bright.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE cactus gardens. I've been growing some of my own from seed. It's taking forever! These are great pics!
ReplyDelete@Sunray - Cher, it's amazing they don't get any supplemental water.
ReplyDelete@Greenapples - Donna, I think the flowers were the only thing not melting in the sun that day.
@Bumble Lush - A friend keeps trying to talk me into putting in a cactus bed. Good luck with your seedlings!
I love those "labor of love" type community gardens. Are the covered beds for vegetables, or are they nurseries for more cactus (or something else altogether)? Is this a garden you're involved with?
ReplyDeleteThe flowers on all the cactus are so gorgeous--a nice reward for putting up with the prickles the rest of the year :) --but for some reason I find yucca blossoms endlessly fascinating.
Such variety in the high, high desert. Inspiring.
ReplyDelete@Stacy - The covered beds are individual beds at the community garden. A friend's husband is one of the founders, but I'm not involved with it. I have another blog post that shows more of the garden.
ReplyDeleteI think I share the same fascination for yucca.
@Patricia - It was an inspiring experience to visit the garden.
I don't think of cactus in a community garden, here they are usually full of vegetables. Beautiful flower colors.
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend who now lives right there near Eldorado wants me to come visit again...she moved from the Santa Fe further out to this area of Eldorado since I was there last year....now I have some new places to visit when I come out again...so much to see in NM...a hidden treasure!!
ReplyDelete@Carolyn - There is a communal bed for fruits and veggies, but also some unexpected surprises, too.
ReplyDelete@Donna - Eldorado is a special place. Every year, there is an annual studio tour for the artists who live there. And this year was Second Annual Garden Tour.
