Nursery Hopping

I went nursery hopping with a friend of mine on Saturday. Sort of like bar hopping, but for the middle age crowd and you don't wake up with a hangover.
Sedum and such
There is something ineffable about seeing orderly rows of plants that makes me happy. If I were a painter, I guess I would be Piet Mondrian. Even when I think I'm arranging things randomly they don't look haphazard. I love the chartreuse color of the sedum and might have to go back for some when it's planting time.
Sempervivums as far as the eye can see
Seeing lots of pots of California poppies inspired me to plant some poppy and cosmos seeds. It's my first attempt at starting seeds inside. I have a few cosmos seedlings after a few days.
Pretty in pink, orange and yellow
I think these are ranunculus. I'm not sure. They look so cute in their pots.
Geraniums and peony
It's too early to plant geraniums and peonies outside. It's hard to get your gardening groove on when the unofficial last frost date in Santa Fe is May 15th. But I did buy a geranium to keep me going until then.

    1. I love the nurseries here, too. I have one egg carton of seedlings, but the rest are still bare. I'm excited to see how it goes.

  2. Interesting that is our last frost date up here in Ohio also. It's hard to go to nurseries and not buy things.

    1. You're so right. I had a friend who only bought a few bulbs. She went back and got a huge bougainvillea.

  4. I love going nursery hopping! It is fun to see so much color and texture. I highly recommend the Angelina Sedum. It has great color year round in my zone.

    1. The Angelina sedum was so pretty. I'm trying to decide where to put. I don't have much winter color so I think it will make a good addition.

  5. It's great to see you back--I was beginning to get concerned about you this time! What a gorgeous array of plants. How lovely just to look at so much COLOR. My fingers are getting that "where are my gardening gloves?" itch... Actually I was planning on a trip to a nursery today to pick up some early things before the weekend, but it looks like the winds are going to be no fun instead.

    1. The winds seem to have started earlier this year. It's bitterly cold today, but I need to go walk Aster.

I started my next project management class and it involves more essay writing. I've had less computer time for fun activities, like blogging. Alas.

  6. Yes, I too think those are ranunculus. They're lovely. What can I say about that last frost date, except that it's ours, too. After 11 years in Colorado, something between 1/3 and 1/4 of my adult life, I still haven't adjusted.

    1. Some winters are mild and I start planting early, but last year I pruned too early and some of my lavender still looks sad. I'm not sure I will adjust to the late frost date either.

  7. Ranunculus are so pretty. I like the thought of nursery hopping, and no headache the next day. :) Great news that you have seedlings already. Can't wait to see your full-grown cosmos.

    1. The seedlings are so cute. I found a video on YouTube about up-potting, too. So I'll see how it goes.

  8. Fun! Hope you had a great day. Gee all those plants, I am just imaging that wonderful earthy nursery greenhouse smell! Nice photos, and such pretty flower colors. I look forward to hearing how your seedlings do. : )

    1. One of the nurseries had a little solarium with orchids and cacti growing in it with a dirt floor. The earthy smell was great.

    1. Our nurseries are open most of the year, so I pop in when I need a gardening fix.

  11. Oh yeah, once spring is near, it's so hard to resist buying things...even if you can't plant them yet! I already have a plant holding area starting to grow on my front porch ;-)

    1. I'm just longingly looking at plants, but will need to wait before I can make any purchases because of the late frost date.

  12. I went into a garden centre the other day for some seed potatoes and ended up spending £60 - oops! It's a dangerous past-time...

  13. Veľmi rada chodím do záhradníctva. Vždy, keď tam prídem, je mi ľúto, že nemám záhradu.
Very glad I go into gardening. Every time I get there I'm sorry that I have not garden.
