The Buck Stops Here

My friend Kirsten sent me these photos a few days ago and I asked her if I could post them on my blog. She came up with the clever title in the email that she sent out. She lives within walking distance of the Garden of the Gods in Manitou Springs, Colorado and had unexpected visitor.
An excerpt from her email: Sunday before last, this guy was napping in our front yard. After a while (maybe because I was creeping around taking pictures of him) he got up and munched on the serviceberry bush out in front of our kitchen window before he took off.
Thanks to Kirsten for allowing me to post and collage her photos.
The coolest thing about blogging for me is vicariously seeing other places. Check out these beautiful fall photos from Bratislava on Daniela's blog, MIMI A JEJ SVET.

  1. I should be afraid of such visit :-) My friend from school time lives also in Colorado, is currently on a visit to Slovakia.
    Nice sunday! Daniela

  3. Interesting face markings. We have quite a few similar critters up here (we're within 40 minutes of Rocky Mountain National Park), but that face is a new one for me.

  4. @Mimi - Daniela, I might be afraid, too. But I love the photos that Kirsten took. I don't think I've ever been that close to such a big animal before.

@Giga - Yes, I've never had nature pay me an unexpected visit like that before.

@Patricia - I was intrigued by the facial markings, too. They have lots of character.

  5. What a surprise! Though, I don't think I'd like that big giant thing looking at me! Or napping in my yard, or eating my serviceberry! But he is gorgeous.

  6. Aw, he's so cute sleeping there... The one photo looks like he's standing waiting for someone to answer the doorbell. No one invited him in for lunch, so he helped himself? lol

  7. @HolleyGarden - My visitors are more of the stray cat or jack rabbit variety. It looks like my friend was very close or has a good macro lens.

@BumbleLush - Very big, kind of scary and beautiful at the same time.

@charlie b. - You're right. It looks like he's asking if lunch is ready yet?

  8. Wow, I can't believe he just curled up and went to sleep in the open like that. He doesn't look like he found a very comfortable position, but maybe with antlers like that he doesn't have many choices! Thanks for passing these along, and the link to the blog in Bratislava, too.

  10. I would faint if I saw that in my front yard! Then, after I picked myself up, I would be like your friend, snapping photos of him! He seemed pretty comfortable in your friends yard.

  14. That is a very appropriate title. Funny that you have these huge animals so near the doorstep. I only have birds, insects and spiders.

  15. Wow, fantastic. But I really, really, really don't want him in my garden!
